One from Michael Rees helped Western Suburbs upset defending premiers Northern Suburbs, while Kerryn Ball’s ton saw Kurri Weston keep Eastern Suburbs at arm’s length.
Runaway leaders City United, on the other hand, have one hand on the minor premiership after convincingly seeing off Thornton Park.
Thornton Park v City United
The ladder leaders were ruthless against Raymond Terrace last weekend and not much changed against Thornton Park.
And, as was the case last week, it was the one-two punch of Matt Trappel (4/22) and Paul Brownlee (2/20) that did the damage with the ball.
The pair had the visitors floundering at 6/47 before Chris Archer added some respectability to the total with a well-made 35 as Thornton were bowled out for 110.
City did lose two early wickets chasing the total, but Trappel (30) and Jason Morris (39 not out) ensured the home side had no trouble sealing their third straight win.
With three rounds remaining, City hold a 10-point lead at the top, with matches against Western Suburbs and a grand final rematch with Northern Suburbs still to play.
Western Suburbs v Northern Suburbs
Northern Suburbs all-rounder Lincoln Mills was promoted to the top of the order and made the most of his elevation with 47 off 67 after Norths had been sent in at Coronation Oval.
Unfortunately, not enough of his teammates followed.
Wests bowler Luke Kealy helped roll through the visitors’ top order, who lost five wickets for 36 runs to be 5/88.
It was left to skipper Josh Callinan, who made an unbeaten 40, to help Norths post 9/170 with Michael Rees finishing with three wickets for the home side.
Rees ensured Wests would make short work of the chase as his towering 101, which included seven fours and six sixes, saw the home side cruise to 3/176 with 17 balls to spare.
The loss sees Norths drop to outright third behind Kurri Weston, who they face in round 14, while Wests should finish fourth with a nine-point gap on fifth-placed Easts.
Kurri Weston v Eastern Suburbs
After winning the toss and batting on their home deck, three early wickets saw Kurri Weston floundering at 3/53.
Enter Michael Heinrich and Kerryn Ball.
The pair put on 128 for the fourth wicket before Ball was dismissed for 100.
Heinrich posted 83 to guide the home side to 8/280 off their 50 overs, with Pat Magann and Lucas Sargant taking three wickets each for Easts.
With their fading finals hopes on the line, Easts did make a good thrust of the chase despite losing three quick wickets of their own.
Jason Allen and Alex Hicks combined for three-figure stand with a 129-run parternship, with Hicks going onto make 92.
Magann also added to his three wickets with a quickfire 34, but steady wickets from Jack Bennett and Haydon Fox saw the visitors bowled out 26 runs short of the total.
The win sees Kurri Weston move into outright second.
