I notice in the Maitland Mercury (February 24), the same old story about the health organisations not wanting the government to approve any more coal mines in the Hunter (or anything else for that matter).

The story lost all credibility to me when one of the first names I saw backing this was Tim Flannery.
The track record of this man and his predictions should make people back away from using him in any campaigns.
According to Tim, Sydney should have empty dams by now and the state should be a disaster zone.
The Hunter Valley needs coal mines for the employment they provide and the contribution they make to the economy at both state and federal levels.
The Hunter would be decimated without the coal industry.
These organisations coming out with their ridiculous suggestions really annoy me.
Please note that I am retired and have never worked in the coal industry, but I love the Valley and what it does.
Once again they quote figures and dollars which they dream up.
Where do these figures come from?
They are complete guesses (called estimates) and I could do the same.
If these people are so smart, get them to do something worthwhile instead of trying to destroy the main industry and employer in the Hunter.
Go the Hunter.
