Known as the Hunter Valley Hurricane, Clarke now sits fourth on the all-time list with four championships.
He won consecutive titles in 2001-02 before a several-year break from the sport.
Clarke said the adrenalin of the speed and danger of speedcars, which can hit 120km/h-plus on tightly packed circuits, lured him back to the sport in December 2013.
“To come back and have the success we’ve had is phenomenal,” he said from his home in Newcastle.
“Great support is the key to it. Having a good team and good people around you and we’ve got that.”
Clarke, who drives for the Ipswich-based team Polar Ice owned by Jack Berry, said it was great to be able to reward Berry for his support.
Victory was set up with a win in Clarke’s final heat, where a win catapulted him from ninth to first in standings and pole in the final.
“I came out of grid five in our last round and won that. We were ninth going into the final round and things fell our way with the win and results from the other drivers not doing as well,” he said.
Clarke now turns his attention to the Speedcar Super Series which he heads with two rounds to go.
“We’ve won two of the three rounds raced. One was rained out and we have two left,” he said.
“The next round is at Archerfield (Queensland) on March 28 and it finishes at Parramatta on April 11.
“Parramatta is now our closest track after Tomago (speedway track) closed so it would be great if Hunter fans can get down.
“It looks like Parramatta will host the Australian championships next year so that will be great.”
