Project Manager Greg Blaze said the mall area would be ready to go for the weekend’s event, but there would still be four weeks to project completion.
“The job won’t be finished obviously,” he said.
“We will still need to do work on the intersections, some touch-ups and the bus zone.
“But the pedestrian access will be fine for the event and the stall holders will be able to get their equipment in.”
The section of The Levee that runs from Elgin Street to Bourke Street will be open in time for the weekend, but none of the intersections will be finished.
Trees were craned into the mall yesterday and native grasses were planted in the estabished landscape rings.
The trees are four-metre evergreen tuckeroos expected to grow up to 10 metres high.
“They will provide good shade,” he said.
The lights are also installed and are expected to be switched on this weekend.
Paint touch-ups will be done on the light fixtures after the Taste event.
Mr Blaze said it was a good thing that event goers would be met with a construction site on entering the Levee, because it would let them know that the job was not yet complete.
“What it is saying is that it is incomplete and will look finished when they come back next time,” he said.
Maitland Taste Festival runs from March 7 to 8.
