Blue Thunda, trained on the Central Coast by 72-year-old John Miles, has won 14 of 15 career starts since debuting 12 months ago.
This has included recent wins at Wentworth Park and Gosford but Blue Thunda (race eight, number six) returns to Maitland Greyhound Club this week for another crack.
The 400 metre fourth-fifth grade final is the $1645 feature of the 10-race meeting with Terry Priest’s Another Blocker and Louise McGee’s Sweeney’s First also in the mix.
Four heats of the 450m fifth grade Autumn Chase provides the best support on the card with trainer Beau Hedley a chance in the opening two events courtesy of Wild Wright (race four, number two) and Murphy’s Law (race five, number four).
Charlie Lamb’s Monty Express (race seven, number three) will have run No.1 over the distance at Maitland in the third heat while Sannette Chop (race nine, number six), which broke the 25 second barrier for trainer Kevin Johnson in a performance trial, will go around in the fourth of the preliminaries.
The top two finishers advance to next week’s final.
Two runners from race six, Black Frenzy and Party Monster, have been scratched with both reserves, Tommy Sunrise and Smart Perfect, expected to start.
Maitland Greyhound Club sponsorship and promotions manager Fred Robertson nominated Anita May (race three, number six) as his best bet of the day.
First race jumps at 3.47pm.
