Tanya is part of the crew at the Maitland station and was responsible for putting together this year’s Mardi Gras message at the front of the building.
“The crew that I work with are the best,” she said.
“This station have done nothing but accept me as a gay woman and I am just one of the guys.”
Tanya said it is a great point of pride for her that the NSW Fire and Rescue are so involved with the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community.
This will be her third time marching in the parade on in Sydney on Saturday. Sarah also marches with the crew donning a firies hat and shirt for the event.
“I am proud of who we are, proud to do our job and at the end of the day we all put our pants on the same way,” Tanya said.
Meanwhile, Eight volunteers from the Maitland City SES Unit including Will Cowan, Nikki Stephens, Tracey Martin and Kile Nicholas will be making the trek down the M1 to take part in the Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras parade with the NSW SES float.
