In a nod to his Jewish ancestry, Mr Eisenberg will host a performance by the London Klezmer Quartet as he prepares to leave his post at the gallery later this year.
“This is one of my gifts to the people of Maitland and I want them to experience true Jewish music and dance,” Mr Eisenberg said.
The London Klezmer Quartet is a dynamic group of performers whose deep understanding of klezmer – the celebratory and soulful music of Eastern European Jews – is reflected in exuberant, passionate and accomplished performances.
A group of klezmer specialists formed the quartet in 2009 to explore the almost-lost wedding music tradition of Eastern European Jews.
The quartet will perform at the gallery on Saturday at 6pm and will be accompanied by a group of young Maitland dancers. A dance workshop will be held between 3pm and 4.15pm.
