A council spokesman said the 13 people who attended the public meeting generally expressed support for plans for a waste transfer station and new recycling facilities at Mount Vincent Waste Management Centre.
Landfill space at the centre is expected to reach capacity in the next five years, so council has been working on a long-term solution for waste management in the city.
The spokesman said people at Tuesday’s forum were mainly interested in how the new facilities would work and how long it would be until they were operational.
“The work will continue in accordance with the project plan,” he said.
“This means continuing the technical studies for the environmental impact statement, progressing the detailed design for the Waste Transfer and Recycling Facility and finalising the financial assessment for the waste transport options.
“After [that] a development application will be submitted for assessment and then referred to the determining body which is expected to be the Joint Regional Planning Panel.”
Representatives from project consultant GHD were at the meeting to provide information and hear design suggestions.
They will review information from the meeting and consider them during the final design process.
