A witness from a nearby house, who asked to remain anonymous, said she heard a loud explosion at the Melaleuca Street home just before 11am on Thursday.
She said she went outside to find the house in flames, before the blaze blew one of the front windows out.
"We ran over and put a hose through it [the window]," she said.
"We ran around the back to get the dog out of the yard and see if anyone was in there.
"The back door was shut and was just boiling hot and all the windows were black."
Fire and Rescue NSW crews from East Maitland and Morpeth extinguished the blaze.
No one was inside the home at the time.
