During the first half of the club’s first grade trial against Edgeworth at No. 2 sportsground yesterday, Kelly reeled out of a save attempt when a close-range shot struck him on the points of his fingers.
Kelly immediately left the field and was replaced by James Wand.
The goalkeeper said he would know more about the extent of the injury on Tuesday.
“Murray [Leland], our sports physio, will take a look,” Kelly said.
“I’m in a half cast and I won’t be able to take that off until Thursday this week.
“That will determine what’s happening.
“At the moment they can’t see any fractures, but the swelling was too bad to confirm that on the X-ray.”
Kelly said an Edgeworth player fired a shot from about the six-yard box to the near post, which struck the keeper’s left glove on the top of his index and middle fingers.
“My fingers didn’t bend back, it just smashed straight on top of my fingers,” he said.
“I put my hand up straight away; I knew it wasn’t good.”
Kelly left the field during the first half with the score locked at 0-0.
The final score was a 3-all draw.
Kelly said he hoped to be fit to play the Maitland Magpies’ first game of their return season to the top-flight competition, but reserve keepers Matt Stonham and James Wand would both make able replacements.
Maitland Magpies first game of the season is away against South Cardiff at Ulinga Oval on April 12.
