Maitland Public School pupils Emmerson Hewitt, 10, Elizabeth Hall, 10, and Monica MacCann, 11, have engaged their minds, easels, wire and paints to create a series of works to be auctioned during the Burton Automotive Hunter Valley Steamfest weekend.
But this has been no paint-by-numbers exercise, because the girls have turned to the classics for inspiration.
“My work was originally a family portrait, but then I decided to do it with wire and it was really fiddly,” Elizabeth said.
“But I just love art.”
Emmerson turned to French impressionist Claude Monet for her two works.
“It took me over seven sessions to do both pieces and I especially love the floral one because I just love blossoms.”
The art will be on show at the school on April 18 and 19.
