Wade Budden spends his time cycling the back roads of Maitland and the Hunter Valley, but in April he will swap inland scenery for the Great Ocean Road.

The 19-year-old is taking on Tour De Cure, a ride from Adelaide to Melbourne to raise awareness and money to cure cancer.
He will ride 1194 kilometres from April 24 to May 2.
“When I found out about the tour and learnt what they do, I couldn’t help but feel compelled to be a part of it,” Budden said.
“I am currently the youngest Tour De Cure has had take part in the ride.
“The ride primarily consists of much older riders whose life experiences have prompted them to take part but, for myself, these experiences with cancer have been from family and friends.”
The cyclist is training between work and other commitments and tries to ride between 200 and 400 kilometres a week.
On tour, the cyclists will ride an average of 130 kilometres each day.
“While on tour, every day we visit a local school and teach young school kids about the importance of living a healthy lifestyle as most cancers can be prevented with the right education from a young age,” Budden said.
The keen teenager has a fundraising target of $12,000 and has already reached $4000.
“Since the beginning of Tour De Cure they have funded over 130 research projects, and have seen 13 cancer research breakthroughs that funds from the Tour De Cure have directly been a part of,” he said.
