This means they can move greater quantities of food for people in need to their shop at Raymond Terrace.
“Having this giant freezer also means we are looking to establish another food store, this time in Cessnock, which we have identified as an area of need,” owner/manager Elsie Cooper said.
“We are extremely grateful to our sponsors – to local businesses and people from the area who make our work possible,” Ms Cooper said.
“These people have come forward when their help was needed by us.
“I believe local business people have big hearts and they care about people who are struggling.
“We are able now to store larger quantities of frozen food such as chickens, pies and vegies – and we have also cut our costs of freezing the food.
“Previously we had to rent a freezer, which cost us $4500 over two years,” Ms Cooper said.
“Our new freezer, which we bought just two weeks ago, cost $7000 – but the
purchase was made possible by the
generosity of several firms and people.
“We are especially grateful to J&S Engineering, who gave us $5000 toward the purchase and we also put in some money ourselves.
“This means our Food War shop in Beresfield has become a hub of our operations further afield.
“Every day, we still see people in desperate straits and they have an urgent need to be able to buy food cheaply.”
Ms Cooper said they were always grateful for help given to them.
