The 16-year-old from East Maitland has been selected in the Born 1998 Australian women’s water polo squad for a European tour later next month.
She will travel to Budapest, Germany and Turkey during a three-week trip with matches against the likes of Hungary, Russia, France, New Zealand and Shanghai.
And from all reports the opponents from that part of the world play a different brand of water polo.
“The Europeans play a different style to us, much different to what we have ever played before,” Hodgson said.
“We will need to be tough.”
Hodgson was picked in the national junior team following the Under-18 Australian Championships in Canberra earlier this month.
She was then asked to stay on for a three-day training camp at the Australian Institute of Sport.
From there the year 11 Hunter Valley Grammar School student made the final cut of 15 players.
“I’m really excited about it,” Hodgson said.
“I’ve been speaking to a few of the older girls who have been away on this tour before and they said it was a great experience.”
It will be her second time overseas having travelled to New Zealand for a Test series for her debut with the Born 1998 squad.
In the interim she will turn her attention to the Hunter Hurricanes senior team and the closing stages of the National Water Polo League.
This weekend, the Hurricanes host the Victorian Seals in a double header at home in Lambton on Saturday and Sunday.
The following weekend the Hurricanes are away in Sydney for the final weekend of competition for the 2015 season.
Last week Hodgson added another medal to her collection with a bronze at the Under-18 NSW Water Polo Championships after winning gold at the same event 12 months earlier.
