Any extra rain or wind is a concern for State Emergency Service crews that continue to mop up in the Hunter Region, which bore the brunt of last week’s storms.

“Any extra rain or wind that the Hunter is going to receive at this stage is going to cause damage,” an SES spokeswoman said.

“There is concern, but we are confident of the resources we have in that area.”

There have been 19,532 calls statewide for assistance since 10am on Monday, April 20, and from those there are 4330 jobs to attend to.

“In the Hunter Region the total jobs received was 6853 and from that there are 1989 jobs outstanding,” the SES spokeswoman said.

More than 30,000 properties also remain without power.

The main area of focus for the SES is between Sydney and the Hunter Region.

There will some respite from the bad weather in Sydney and the Hunter on  Tuesday, but rain should start picking up on Wednesday, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.

A trough is expected to develop off the northern NSW coast in the second half of this week, which will bring fairly widespread rain, a BoM spokesman said on Monday.

The Sydney metropolitan area can expect a few showers but the heaviest rainfall will be further north.
