As the weary family of executed Bali nine drug smuggler Andrew Chan arrived home from Indonesia on Friday, a woman who went to primary school with him was adding to the growing pile of tributes left outside.

"Michael!" she called out from her car window at Chan's older brother before saying how sorry she was and reversing out of the driveway.

Chan's grieving mother Helen and brother Michael arrived at their house in Enfield just before midday.

Unlike the media scrums that surrounded the families of the eight executed prisoners in Indonesia, only a handful of reporters awaited their arrival.

The family did not speak to the media and most swiftly packed up their equipment and left.

A frail looking Helen was assisted by Michael and a friend into the house.

A few supporters arrived with them, and some appeared already to be inside.

Chan's father Ken had been too ill to travel to Indonesia and said his final goodbye to his son in February.

The moving tributes left outside Chan's childhood home have continued to grow since Australians woke to news of his execution on Wednesday.

Flowers and candles line the fence, which also has a Christian calender hanging off it.

The sound of children playing and laughing at the childcare centre next door provides a grim contrast to the makeshift memorial.

Neighbours are also rallying to show their support for the Chans.

One helped the family carry their suitcases into the home when they arrived from the airport.

Another has been visiting Ken Chan on a daily basis. That neighbour said he was "going OK" and was a quiet, shy man who did not show his emotions too much.

He had been suffering bad shoulder pain and spent the evening of the execution with his two daughters and family friends, the neighbour said.

"I think he was pretty pragmatic about it. I think he had gone through so much. It has been like a roller-coaster for him but I think once they moved Andrew to that jail they had given up hope."

Chan grew up in Enfield and went to the nearby Homebush Boys High.

Funeral plans for Chan, and Myuran Sukumaran, have not been confirmed.

Their bodies were expected to arrive in Sydney on Saturday morning.
