The volunteers will work alongside local families, helping to rebuild fences and other structures that have been damaged or destroyed by the storm.
“Council has made a commitment of $5000 toward establishing BlazeAid in the area and this money would be used to help provide meals for the volunteers and other support,” mayor of Dungog Harold Johnston said.
Local farmers will be asked to provide materials such as posts, wire and star pickets and appropriate machinery if larger wooden posts and strainers are going to be used in the fence.
“In other areas, BlazeAid volunteers have not only assisted in rebuilding fences, but also lifted community spirit,” Dungog District Chamber of Commerce president Jenny Lewis said.
The base camp will be at the Dungog Showgrounds from Monday, May 11.
BlazeAid is a volunteer-based organisation that works with families and individuals in rural Australia after natural disasters such as fires and floods.
Affected farmers in need of assistance can register with BlazeAid at blazeaid.dungog@gmail.com.
Details of the damage should be included, along with when volunteers can start work on the properties.
