It was the start of a month-long fund-raising campaign by 14 belly dancers from Maitland Hunter Valley Shimmy Mob that will finish with a major event at East Maitland Scout Hall on May 23.
Belly dance groups from throughout the world took part in World Belly Dance Day on the Saturday.
The Shimmy Mob danced at Kurri Kurri market, at Maitland Station, the Organic Feast in East Maitland and at Morpeth.
“It all went really well and we raised the $222 in small change,” team assistant Narelle Nalbantof said.
“Our fund-raising for Carrie’s Place will continue throughout this month and will end with a major event, an Arabian Nights-style evening of feasting and dancing at East Maitland Scout Hall,” she said.
In the belly dance on Saturday, Ms Nalbantof and her colleague Lucinda Waters joined dancers from 10 cities around the world to celebrate the day.
