The next DrumMuster event will be held at the Maitland City Council Works Depot at Metford Road, East Maitland, on Friday.
DrumMuster allows residents to recycle empty, clean, non returnable plastic and metal crop production drums and farm animal health chemical containers that carry the DrumMuster logo.
More than 812 containers were collected for recycling in the Maitland local government area as part of the program last year.
Council’s development and environment manager David Simm said safe disposal of empty crop production and animal health containers was a big problem that many landholders faced.
“Following the recent flood event it is timely to remove empty drums as a part of your property clean up,” he said.
Containers will only be accepted by council if they are free of all chemical residues and each container will be inspected to ensure that this is the case.
“The quickest and easiest way to ensure that your containers will be accepted is to triple rinse all containers immediately after use and pour the rinse water back into the spray tank,” Mr Simm said. “Lids should be removed to allow the containers to dry out once rinsed.”
Landholders who want to recycle empty containers as part of this program must contact the works depot on 4934 9611.
