The manager at Anytime Fitness Rutherford was diagnosed with cancer of the kidneys when she was in her early twenties.
She had no symptoms and as a single mother to two young children the diagnosis hit her hard.
“I was basically devastated,” Ms Hall said.
“I kept saying, why me?
“As a last resort I called the Cancer Council and they talked me off the ledge.
“I broke down in tears to some poor lady on the phone.
“The Cancer Council were really fabulous.”
Ms Hall’s cancer was caught in the early stages and was surgically removed.
The Cancer Council helped Ms Hall to understand the treatment process, talk to her children about the illness, rehabilitate and even offered counselling services.
Now the young mother wants to give back to the organisation that did so much for her in a time of need.
“After cancer I’m so much more positive as a person, and I am a different parent to my children,” Ms Hall said.
“One in two people are diagnosed with cancer.
“It’s time to get rid of this disgusting disease.”
Tomorrow from 3pm to 6pm the Rutherford gym will hold a “Biggest Afternoon Tea”.
Coles and Woolworths donated food for the event and a gold coin donation will get a tea, coffee or a cake.
Gym owners Jess and Nicholas Salvador will also throw open the doors and offer free access all day to get people in to the event.
Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea is an annual event where friends, family or workmates share a cuppa and raise money for the Cancer Council.
