Kid Stakes is an Australian comedy based on the Fatty Finn comic strips.
It was filmed on the streets of Wooloomoloo except for the climactic billy goat race which had to be filmed in Queensland because the NSW government had banned such races a year before.
Jan Preston’s original score for piano and percussion (kazoo, tin drum, snare and plastic bags) evokes the silent movie era of yesteryear and enhances the characters and comedy of the film.
Kid Stakes will be shown at the James Theatre at 10am this Sunday.
Planet Dungog Festival is going ahead this Friday, Saturday and Sunday featuring street concert, film comedy, bush poetry and a long list of folk, blues, rock, jazz and classical music performers.
The event is designed to celebrate the resilience and generosity of the Dungog community while visitors enjoy a program of 50 acts across eight heritage venues.
Tickets are for sale online and half the profits will be donated to Dungog Shire Community Centre welfare disaster fund.
Performers include The Willing Ponies, a gutsy trio featuring two of The Reels, with a great swampy slide guitar sound and warm earthy vocals at Dungog RSL on Friday night from 8pm to 9pm and Beatles Unplugged at the James Theatre on Saturday night.
Other performers include Jan Preston, Inland Navigators, Exploding Happiness, Peter Willey and Matthew Hobbs, Ol’ Guits, Folklore, Syndicators and Fancy plus many more.
