And it doesn’t get much tougher than facing off against the defending Northern NSW Football National Premier League champions.
The Magpies will travel to Arthur Edden Oval on Saturday for their eighth round encounter against the Lambton Jaffas and they want to make it two on the trot.
“I hope we can do it,” Magpies coach Reece Thompson said.
“The boys go in with a bit of extra confidence after last week and if we can play as well as what we did then we will definitely take it to them.
“Obviously Jaffas are another game all together, but if we can create enough chances again we might be able to cause an upset.”
Thompson said the squad only had a light run at training on Tuesday after playing five matches in the space of 15 days, which gave players a chance to rest any niggling injuries.
Thompson’s brother and Magpies skipper Blake is unavailable for the clash with Matt Comerford coming back into the squad.
Maitland striker and two-time First Division golden boot winner Ben Martin will be out to make it four goals in as many matches, including Sunday’s 3-0 win against Charlestown City.
Over at Magic Park this Sunday and the fourth-placed Weston Bears will be out to bounce back against league leaders Broadmeadow following a 3-1 loss to Hamilton at home last start.
Around the grounds on Saturday and Adamstown host South Cardiff while Edgeworth are at home to Newcastle Jets Youth.
On Sunday it will be second-placed Hamilton Olympic tackling cellar dwellers Charlestown City at Darling Street Oval.
All matches kick-off at 2.30pm.
