Construction on the Hunter’s first new town in 50 years is expected to span two decades as it grows from one village to the next.
Mr Belcastro, a site supervisor for Greg Dickinson Homes at Huntlee, was pleased to see Huntlee’s first concrete slab go down at the end of May.
“It’s the first step in many years of work here,” he said.
“Our plan is to be here for the next 20 years.”
Greg Dickinson Homes is one of 17 builders that will work on Katherine’s Landing which is Huntlee’s first village.
“All our trades are local,” Mr Marcello said.
“We’re not bringing anyone up from Sydney.”
Huntlee will have about 7500 new homes by 2035 across four villages and a town centre.
Mr Marcello will shortly have his builder’s license.
From his experience as a carpenter he said a development like Huntlee was rare.
“I’ve never had a job with at least 10 years work in it,” he said.
“There are plenty of building blocks and plenty of opportunity for everyone.”
Mr Marcello’s first task is to oversee construction on a four-bedroom cottage.
Situated on a 437 square-metre lot, with rear-lane access, it will serve as his office and display home.
The cottage lots are a Huntlee feature as part of a diverse mix that includes traditional-sized lots up to 1000 sq m and country-style home sites in excess of 1000 sq m.
The cottage-style lots have garages at the rear of the house and are intended to attract young singles, busy couples or retirees with low maintenance yards.
“It’s a new take on an old school village,” Huntlee sales consultant Justin Priddis said.
“These are an alternative option for people at Huntlee.”
