In a little over a week the 14-year-old will land in Vancouver for the first of hopefully many rounds of international competition.
The talented athlete was invited to join the Sports Travel Australia expedition last year.
The Hunter Valley Grammar School student had run well at the All Schools when she grabbed the attention of tour organisers.
Carroll, who competes through summer with East Maitland Little Athletics, proved she was a force this year with a 12.6 second 100 metres at the Glendale regionals.
But it’s the long jump where she excels.
While at Glendale, Carroll posted a personal best 5.43 metres.
Unfortunately, an ankle injury sustained at touch football kept Carroll from her best at state.
But some careful and considered preparation since has her ready to blitz the Canadians.
Gym work and time away from hard synthetic tracks has helped ease the bone bruising.
“My form’s been getting better,” Carroll said.
“I really want to go I’m getting very
excited.”
From Vancouver Carroll will travel to Okanagan on June 27 and 28 for a regional meet with support from dad Glenn Carroll on June 27 and 28.
Australian teams have competed there for 20 years and turned out results that sit somewhere between state and national results here.
“To get some international experience at such a young age is fantastic,” Carroll’s father Glen said. “She’s got a very good chance of medalling.”
The touring party’s second and final meet will take place on July 4 and 5 back in Vancouver.
After that father and daughter will take in the sights of Los Angeles, Universal Studios and Disneyland.
