It was feared that Moet, who cost $30,000 to train, might never become an assistance dog after being attacked twice by other dogs in East Maitland.
But his big chance to see if he can cope in crowds comes this weekend when Moet will be at the gate of Maitland Aerodrome in Rutherford where about 10,000 people are expected to attend.
“We want Moet to interact with people and the Hunter Valley Air Show is just the place to take him so we can test him out,” Assistance Dogs NSW director of training Carmel Caczmar said.
“We would like people to stop and have their pictures taken with Moet so we can see how he behaves,” Ms Caczmar said on Wednesday.
“Moet and I will be at the front gate of the aerodrome from 9am on both Saturday and Sunday.
“People attending the show will be able to help us a lot by patting Moet and we will assess how he reacts.
“He has been really anxious recently and barking at people and other dogs – something an assistance dog must never do.
“There will also be opportunities for visitors to have their pictures taken with Moet.
“We will have a photographer at the gate or people can take their own pictures with him.
“We will put pictures out on Facebook too because already he is quite a famous dog.
“So we are asking visitors to the air show to stop and pat Moet and maybe he can still qualify for the important work we want him to do.”
