It has foodies salivating over the imported beer and the chain’s staple, pork knuckle.
“The best way I can describe it is Oktoberfest all year round,” restaurateur James Sneddon said.
“It’s loud and noisy but a lot of fun.”
Das Hund Haus has venues in Hamilton, Newcastle East and Charleston but its Maitland store could be the biggest yet if punters can help meet the bond through an ambitious crowd funding campaign.
If the landlord holds firm at six months rent in advance restaurateur James Sneddon will need $70,000 to crystalise his plans.
Investors will receive a $100 voucher redeemable at any of his venues for every $50 pledged.
“I’ve sold 150 of the vouchers already,” Mr Sneddon said.
“At this rate I hope we’ll have bond within seven days.”
The Facebook announcement has fuelled speculation on just where Das Hund Haus will land in Maitland. Mr Sneddon said it was too soon to announce the location but has been buoyed by the enthusiasm.
The Facebook page picked up 1000 likes in a matter of days.
“The support in Maitland has been huge,” he said.
“The team can’t wait to get up there.”
Since work has begun on The Levee there has been a series of entertainment venues open that includes The Pourhouse, Marmook and Poom Pooms and Temple to name a few.
Mr Sneddon said The Levee had improved the look of the dated mall but was not necessarily his motivation.
“There’s a growing population in Maitland and I think it’s perfect,” he said.
“Anywhere that likes a good beer is a good venue for us.
“The more businesses surrounding me the better – I don’t see it as competition, I see it as choice for people.”
Mr Sneddon hopes to open by September with plans for a big Oktoberfest celebration.
