Mercury journalists helped the NAB to identify and put forward Community Grant Applications for the local organisations affected by the storms.
“The NAB announced a number of relief measures to help support customers and communities affected by the storms in NSW, including donating up to $300,000 through the NAB Community Relief Fund,” NAB senior business banking manager Shane Hindle said.
“This fund is a recovery grants program available to a range of not-for-profit organisations in affected areas, helping them to clean up, and it supports communities in the aftermath of the storms,” Mr Hindle said.
RSPCA Hunter Shelter at Rutherford manager Sharon Wynne said they were delighted with the $10,000 NAB donation they received.
“We will be using this donation to buy 14 two-day radios so all of our animal attendants will be able to communicate with each other all the time – and call for help if they face problems with dangerous dogs,” Ms Wynne said.
National co-ordinator of the Thornton-based food charity Aussie Care, Peter West, said: “The $10,000 donation we received from the NAB will certainly help us and we appreciate it.
“We have food ready to go on disaster relief operations, made possible by these donations.”
Kat Butterfield, of the Salvation Army in the Hunter and Central NSW, said: “We were delighted to receive $3000 from the NAB to support our ongoing work.”
The following groups in Maitland received grants:

- Gillieston Heights Community Centre
