Jade said her traineeship had provided her with both skills and perspective as she prepared to transition from school to working life.
“Since starting my traineeship I have met a lot of people who work really hard and tell me of the struggles they have faced which made me realise how lucky I am for the support I have received,” Jade said.
“Seeing the difficulties other people have gone through in this industry has developed my motivation substantially.
“I just want to work hard to the best of my ability.”
Jade said her long-term goal had been to leave high school with sought-after skills, a qualification and more than a regular job.
“I wanted the kind of job where I could learn things, earn qualifications and better myself,” she said.
“It has definitely paid off and I am a lot more confident in myself now.”
Jade came out on top of the four nominees in her category but said she is only taking the first steps toward her goal.
“I can’t wait to finish year 12 with a qualification in retail, in the hope it will lead to higher education in the form of a corporate and criminal law degree,” she said.
