The year 6 student at Maitland Christian School has won the last two Australian cross country titles in her age group and will aim for a third next month in Melbourne.
But earlier in July, she broke through at state level after being runner-up to different opponents in 2013 and 2014.
The gold medal in the 12-years girls’ division at the NSW PSSA Championships was the one missing from her collection, despite going on to claim victory at national level twice before.
This time around, Fayers climbed to the top of the podium, finishing a dominant 15 seconds ahead of her nearest rival at Eastern Creek and completing the three kilometre course in a time of 12 minutes and 25 seconds.
This continued an undefeated run for Fayers this year following previous success across school, zone and CIS levels.
The 2014 Maitland junior citizen of the year will now attempt to keep that momentum going when she travels to the Victorian capital for the SSA Cross Country Championships.
Fayers has clinched national titles at her last two attempts – on debut in the 10 years section over 2km in Launceston, Tasmania, and 12 months ago in the 11 years over 3km in Albany, Western Australia.
