This weekend the 26-year-old will make his NRL debut after being selected in the Newcastle Knights’s team by interim coach Danny Buderus to tackle the St George Illawarra Dragons at Jubilee Stadium on Sunday.
“I’m over the moon and haven’t been able to wipe the smile off my face,” Ross told media after training on Thursday morning.
“It’s a dream come true and I guess it’s a testament to continuing to back yourself and even though your back is against the wall, just keep trying and dreams do come true if you chase it.”
Ross joined the Knights last season and has since played with the Knights reserves in NSW Cup, which included being named fullback of the year for the state competition in 2014.
Prior to that Ross was at Kurri, Lakes, various Queensland Cup sides, French club Toulouse Olympique and South Sydney juniors.
“I’ve just been chipping away trying to get that opportunity,” he said.
“I have learnt a lot from every place I have been and can say I have taken a lot of things from all types of characters and people I have met in the game all come together for this moment of my debut.”
This will be the first game for Newcastle since former coach Rick Stone was sacked on Monday.
Kick-off is 2pm.
