In a true display of Aussie ingenuity, Tony Guy whipped up the Guylock MX in a weekend.
“I went home about a fortnight ago and came up with the idea,” the owner of Rutherford Mufflers said.
At the time, the Mercury had reported on bikes that had been stolen from Rutherford, Heddon Greta and Thornton.
It’s been a persistent problem for years and Mr Guy, a motorbike enthusiast for four decades, said he’d had enough.
Shaped a bit like a coat hanger, the sturdy device locks together both wheels with a couple of padlocks.
The portable device can be used in a van or trailer as much as it can in a garage.
“Don’t get me wrong they can still steal it, but it will slow them down,” Mr Guy said.
“They’ll still steal a brand new Ferrari from a showroom.”
If early interest in the device is any indication, Mr Guy could be onto a real winner.
He has applied for a patent and the device is already on sale in shops at Newcastle and Dubbo.
He’s sold 20 already and has started production on 60 more.
Dakar champ Toby Price was reportedly one of his first customers.
“If we can save some young bloke’s bike it will have been worth it,” Mr Guy said.
