Australia has been celebrating the sport in the lead-up to the Netball World Cup, which will be hosted at Sydney Olympic Park from Friday August 7 to 16.
The cup will travel 14,500 kilometres in four months to give 100 thousand netballers the opportunity to get close to the hallowed trophy.
Netball World Cup’s Kath Tetley said the trophy tour was about community engagement and fan experience.
“We have been overwhelmed by the passionate support we have received from netballers, netball friends and community when we arrive with the Netball World Cup Trophy,” Mrs Tetley said.
Mrs Tetley said she had been delighted to accept invitations from netball clubs across the country to exhibit the cup.
“We only wish we had more hours in the day – or perhaps a teleporter could help us to see everyone before our event arrives!” Mrs Tetley said.
“Our netball family is huge and our role is to give as many netballers the chance to experience the trophy tour,” she said.
The Netball World Cup is returning to Australian shores for the first time in 24 years, and will be held in Sydney with the opening day on Friday August 7, with competition for ten consecutive days through to the gold medal match which will take place on Sunday August 16 2015.
Nearly 200 of the world’s best netballers will take the court for 64 World Cup matches.
