Council recently began work on the revamp, funded by the Hunter Infrastructure and Investment Fund, to modernise the auditorium and performance space of the building.
But council is calling for people to share any old photos that capture the history of the building, particularly the inside of it.
The idea is to use the photos to help guide the revamp.
Project officer Ben Griffin said council would be particularly interested in seeing photos of the hall’s interior taken before the 1960s.
“Maitland Town Hall has a long and celebrated history in our community, hosting a huge number of events and occasions in its time,” he said.
“Photos recording these events may give us more insight into the history and design of the facility.
“Images featuring the auditorium, supper room or reception foyer would all be of interest to council because they would feature the interior decor or the light fittings of the time.”
Anyone with photos they are willing to share with council can contact Ms Griffin on 4934 9638.
The renovations are expected to be finished by November.
