The Lendlease development’s integration with the historic village impressed judges.
The careful restoration of Morpeth House, a historic building within the village, demonstrated Lendlease’s commitment.
“Using materials and methods from 150 years ago, the historical relevance of the building has been retained and its use transformed into a vibrant and interactive community centre,” Lendlease retirement living managing director Michael Eggington said.
“The centre is the heart of the community and has created a wonderful sense of social engagement.
“Residents gather in the restored building for a number of group activities with thoughtfully designed separate areas also providing a place to relax and unwind.”
Set on 40 hectares, the historic homestead precinct is located on a hilltop location and retains its rural views.
The master planned design incorporates a range of two and three bedroom villas and is expected to contain 250 villas once complete.
Closebourne Village is already home to 143 residents and, with a
further 30 villas planned for release shortly, this number will continue to grow.
The judges were greatly impressed with the innovative and sympathetic reuse of the historically significant buildings into a high-quality, contemporary and vibrant seniors’ community.
“Located in the Hunter Region, Closebourne Village is an active seniors’ living community that is beautifully integrated with the neighbouring riverside township of Morpeth,” chief judge Julie Bindon said.
“The master plan was created to reduce the visual impact of
development as well as retain all significant vegetation and includes a rural residential zone to provide a transition in the urban form.
“The first-class community facilities – including the Grand Tea Room, indoor heated pool and community garden – foster a strong sense of active community living in this riverside location.”
More than 900 people were at the Star Casino awards ceremony when Lendlease won its category on Friday night.
