According to a small sample of the price of regular unleaded fuel at service stations in the Maitland and Newcastle regions on Monday, the price of ULP appeared to be three to four cents a litre cheaper in Newcastle.
Service stations across Maitland were selling unleaded fuel for about 129c/l, compared with about 125c/l in the Newcastle area.
The comparison comes at the cheaper point of the Hunter’s weekly petrol price cycle.
The high point of the weekly cycle is expected to take place on Thursday.
The Mercury will continue to publish comparisons of fuel prices in Maitland and Newcastle on Tuesdays and Fridays to shine a light on price trends across the Hunter.
It comes after reports earlier this month that there was up to a 20c/l difference on some occasions in the price of regular unleaded fuel between Maitland and Newcastle.
NRMA found earlier this month that there was a massive 34c/l difference between the cheapest and most expensive regular unleaded fuel in the Hunter on April 11.
