The 34-year-old has one more game for the Kurri Kurri Bulldogs before returning to Macquarie for one last season in the Newcastle Rugby League first grade competition.
It will be a case of coming full circle for Abraham who, after six and a half years at Kurri Kurri, will go back to his junior club and the place from which he was picked up by the Newcastle Knights before winning an NRL premiership in 2001.
He will take up the position of assistant coach at the Scorpions in 2016 while donning the familiar uniform for a swansong.
“I’m looking forward to it,” Abraham said.
“Coaching is something I’ve always wanted to get into and I was at a point in my career where I was deciding whether to finish up or not.
“The chance to have that role and, being a Macquarie junior, go back for one more season to finish off just felt right.”
Abraham played for Valentine and Booragul in his younger days and then had a season with Toronto first grade in 1999 before a 100-game career with the Knights, which included two NSW Country caps.
He then had a year with North Queensland in 2007 before joining Queensland Cup side the Mackay Cutters in 2008.
The second-rower returned to the Hunter midway through 2009 after signing with Kurri Kurri where he has been a regular starter ever since, including an extended stint as captain.
“I’ve had a ball at Kurri Kurri,” Abraham said. “I’ve made plenty of mates and had plenty of good times.
“I’ve been able to work with a lot of younger players and I’ve really enjoyed being back in local league close to home.”
Abraham said the 2013 grand final run was the highlight from his time at the Bulldogs.
“That run we had was outstanding and no-one would have predicted it,” he said.
“We had to beat Maitland by 20-odd points in the last round just to make it and four weeks later we were in the grand final.
“We fell short to Wests in the decider but they are a good team
and have been for as long as I can remember.”
Abraham will notch up his 100th first grade game for Kurri Kurri on Saturday when they travel to meet Coalfields rivals Cessnock.
“It will be a big game and we will need to aim up,” he said.
“We won’t be favourites but we will go out there and give it our best.”
The Bulldogs sit in last position going into the final round, one point behind Maitland who host Macquarie at the same time.
Kick-off is 3pm.
