That strong community spirit to dig deep when it matters most will almost certainly come to the fore again when badge sellers take to the streets next week to help Legacy.
Legacy Week is the annual appeal that raises awareness and money for the fmailies of our nation’s incapcitated and deceased veterans.
On a national level Legacy helps more than 90,000 widows and 1900 children and people with a disability Australia-wide each year.
The services that Legacy offers are many and varied. They range from helping around the home with general maintenance to providing holidays camps for children.
Maitland Legacy chairman John Fenwick is proof that Legacy Week, which started in 1942, is worthy of community support.
The organisation helped his mother after the death of his father, who fought in World War I and was one of the soldiers who dug under the famous Hill 60.
Having followed in his father’s footsteps and fought in World War II, Mr Fenwick took an active interest in Legacy later in his life.
Legacy is still a vital help for families of service men and women across the Hunter and provides financial support for bills, rent, food, clothing, school supplies, school fees and other essential items.
Legacy Week badge sellers will be out in the community next week. Please dig deep and help them to continue their projects.
