Aussie Care was instrumental in helping people in need during the April super storm and was one of the first community organisations to respond when the natural disaster hit, Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter Scot MacDonald said.
The organisation supplied groceries and household items to the community during the crisis.
“This grant is recognition by the NSW government of the assistance provided by Aussie Care, who stepped in to assist Hunter residents during and after the emergency period of the April storm,” Mr MacDonald said.
“It is important to recognise organisations in the Hunter like Aussie Care that do such outstanding work.
“I would also like to acknowledge Maitland City Council, who strongly supported the recommendation for a grant to this wonderful organisation.”
Emergency Services Minister David Elliott said the grant would help Aussie Care continue its work.
“This grant will go toward Aussie Care doing what it does best – assisting families in times of need,” he said.
In addition to providing support during emergencies, Aussie Care operates a storehouse in Thornton that supplies groceries and other household items to Hunter residents in need. The storehouse is open Wednesday to Friday from 9.30am and 12.30pm.
