In the space of four races at the season-ending meet, Elder saluted with Taylor Shannon, Days End and Charli Dollar.
This prevented Tritton from obtaining the three wins he required to make the 200 mark in NSW for the past 12 months.
Tritton had 14 runners contesting six events at Newcastle International Paceway on August 31, but could only manage victory in the last with favourite Mickey Mcrooney.
This left Tritton on 198 winners across the state, stranded just short of the twin ton line in consecutive campaigns.
He finished second on the NSW Trainer’s Premiership behind Steve Turnbull and relinquished his NSW Metropoliton Trainer’s Premiership with third place on 26 wins at Menangle.
However, Tritton did seal his sixth straight Newcastle Trainer’s Premiership and broke the 100 barrier for the first time at his home track.
On the national standings, which incorporate interstate wins in Victoria and Queensland, Tritton ended up with 220 wins for 2014-2015.
This placed him second overall across the country for the year, alongside Greg and Skye Bond, but well behind leader Grant Dixon (282).
It also saw Tritton surpass the previous mark of Turnbull (217) for most winners by a NSW trainer in Australia for a season.
In other results from Newcastle on Monday, the Rob Hosking-trained Shadow River paid $27.60 for taking out the second and Ellalong trainer-driver Michael Formosa succeeded in the third with In The Extreme.
Racing returns to Newcastle for the new season on September 11 after a weekend off. A Saturday night meeting will be held on September 19.
Maitland’s first of five race dates for 2015-2016 will be November 5.
The Saturday night show will be followed by twilight meeting on December 6.
Inter City Pace heats will take place on December 27 with the final to follow on the first Saturday of January.
