But this doesn’t mean they remain ignorant of the plight of others.
Year 9 and 10 students at All Saints College St Joseph’s Campus, Lochinvar, spent Friday night in the school hall as part of their campaign to raise money and awareness for Youth Off The Streets.
“This is all part of our social justice focus, and homelessness is one thing we’ve been talking about a lot in our religious studies classes and how important it is to stand in solidarity those less fortunate than ourselves,” the school’s ministry co-ordinator Erin McCort said.
As part of the sleep out, students were presented with a range of challenges.
“We got them thinking about where they would sleep if they were homeless, the dangers they would come up against, that sort of thing.”
More than 47,000 young people – under the age of 25 – are homeless making up to 48 per cent of the homeless population.
“Supporting youth homelessness is such a great thing to do because not everyone has the same privileges as we do, like going home to a warm bed at night,” Ms McCort said.
