Her next project to walk 60 kilometres over two days in Sydney to raise money for cancer research as part of The Weekend To End Women’s Cancers.

Mrs Cobcroft is a member of a team of eight women called Like Minded who are walking in support of the Chris O’Brien Lifehouse Foundation.

With three boys and twin girls aged six to 13 years, the East Maitland woman is always busy and on the go, but wants to be part of “fighting the fight” against all cancers.

“My grandmother Hazel died 20 years ago with breast cancer and that was my first experience with the disease,” she said.

“It still affects me now; we were close and it still makes me emotional.”

A friend asked Mrs Cobcroft to join the team and they each need to raise $2000 for the fundraising effort.

“We all know someone affected by cancer – sisters, mothers, grandmothers and friends,” she said.

“I have organised a cocktail evening and have received generous donations and prizes for the event.

“The Chris O’Brien Lifehouse is in memory of Dr O’Brien, a cancer specialist who died from a brain tumour, and his legacy is cancer care and research at Lifehouse.

“Lifehouse is about treating the patient as a whole person.”

The two-day trek starts and ends in Tumbalong Park, Darling Harbour, and will be held on November 7 and 8.

A Weekend to End Women’s Cancers in support of the Chris O’Brien Lifehouse will be held on Saturday, September 5, at The Blind Monk in Hamilton.

Cocktails and appetisers will be served, raffles and prizes will be drawn on the night.
