Zack Stewart, Rahn Sonneveld and Dan Welbourne have been selected in the under-11 Sydney Swans Academy squad for 2016.
They were picked up following their performances at recent trials which tested skill level, co-ordination and attitude.
Now they will be part of a training program aimed at improving players through extra sessions and specialised coaching.
It begins on February 1 and runs for 25 weeks throughout the school term, breaking during the holiday periods.
Each Monday, the Saints crew will meet in Newcastle for a skills session and every fortnight on a Wednesday in Sydney for squad sessions.
Being a member of this system also opens the door for selection in all state and national carnivals through AFL NSW-ACT.
Players are retained in the academy program until the under-15 age group.
The Maitland boys all received a letter penned by Swans great and academy head coach Michael O’Laughlin encouraging them to keep up the hard work that saw them selected.
“Congratulations on your selection,” O’Laughlin said.
“Please use your assessment results to continue working on your skill level – kicking, handball and marking.”
