Peter Brereton and his hard-working volunteers in the Maitland Support Group raised the money during the past financial year with the help of local businesses and the community.
“It is quite surprising when you look at where the more notable funds come from,” Mr Brereton said.
One of the bigger donors was Highway Ford Rutherford, which handed over $12,000. A further $9000 was raised by businesses that display the cash donation tins on their counters.
Events including the Beresfield Charity Bowls Day, meat raffles at the Hunter River Hotel and the Bridal Expo also raised a generous amount of money.
The balance was made up by the great effort of volunteer appearances at the Maitland Show, 4-Wheel Drive Show, Steamfest, Rutherford Air Show and numerous stalls at several shopping centres in the past 12 months.
“The 2015-16 financial year has started very well, reflecting the continuing local community generosity and community spirit,” Mr Brereton said.
