The class of 1999 made the under-15 interstate knockout decider and a few Mercury articles were dug up and shared around social media during the week.
Even an old football signed by each of the players was dusted off after being found at the back of someone’s cupboard.
It means the St Peter’s championship-winning squad from 11 years earlier in 1988 still remain the most successful Maitland high school in the annual tournament.

Still on the topic of old Mercury clippings and current Maitland Rams star Peter Urquhart found a few old hockey clippings at home recently.
One in particular was from 1995 and the first grade side’s unbeaten run coming to an end, but more interestingly it features a handful of blokes who are still running around today like Troy Martin and Nathan Packham.

Former first grade cricketer and tennis ace Matthew Eggleston, son of Maitland horse trainer Peter, has been using his competitive side for a different kind of sporting activity recently.
Eggo, as he is more affectionately known, now looks after the music content at Austereo radio station 2DayFM in Sydney.
Star presenters Dan and Maz put Eggo forward to help break a record –for the world’s longest kiss.
It was a successful campaign, locking lips with ousted Bachelor contestant Sandra for five minutes and 15 seconds on top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
This also ended in a surprise date for Eggo and Sandra, reunited courtesy of Dan and Maz the following week and complete with tux and roses in a Bachelor-type scenario.
Is love in the air?

Check out this video of rugby league gone horribly wrong.
The full-time siren sounds and a player from the team in front collects a loose ball and attempts to kick the ball dead to end the game but it doesn’t work.
Instead, the opposite winger chases down the pill and after a perfect bounce regathers to score the match-winning try against all odds.

And finally, this week marks the 47th anniversary since Sir Garfield Sobers became the first cricketer to hit six sixes in the one over.
They are still looking for the last ball.
