September 6 is the day to appreciate dads across the region, whether they tell terrible jokes or have a penchant for handkerchiefs.
To mark the occasion, the Mercury visited some of the kindergarten students at Maitland East Public School to talk to them about their fathers, and the results were humorous.
Six-year-old Gracie Bryson was very clear about her dad’s favourite things.
“He likes cars and he also likes playing cars with us,” she said.
She was not as clear when it came to her Father’s Day gift.
“Maybe a new ring or maybe some of his favourite food for lunch and let him have a sleep in,” Gracie said.
John Kirkman, 6, said he loved his dad because they played football and soccer together and he already had the perfect present in mind.
“Mine and his favourite chocolates – Turkish Delight,” he said.
Ed Slater was not sure what he would give his father on Sunday, but he did have a very specific way to describe his dad.
“He has black hair,” he said.
“And some grey in the back.”
