On the weekend of October 17 and 18 the annual Hunter Valley Balloon Fiesta will see more than 200 people ferried into the clouds.
Hosted by Balloon Aloft, the event is now in its fifth year and includes 20 hot air balloons from around the country.
“Prior to our first fiesta, an event such as this had never been staged before over the Hunter Valley,” local pilot Nicola Scaife said.
“It really is a breathtaking experience to be on board one of the many balloons as they float together at dawn over the vineyards.
“We are looking forward to the opportunity to do it all again.”
Weather conditions for the event are expected to be beautiful, with spring bringing colourful sunrises and clear skies.
Ballooning enthusiasts can take part by buying a ticket to ride in a balloon, but places are limited.
Celebrations will continue afterwards at Peterson House with a gourmet breakfast and Champagne tasting.
“There will be live music and a real party atmosphere,” she said.
For those who do not want their feet to leave the ground, the event also makes for excellent viewing as all of the balloons go up at the same time.
