In its second consecutive year, Maitland’s annual Riverlights Multicultural Festival will partner with Slow Food Hunter Valley to introduce an interactive community kitchen to the masses.
“Food conveys a lot of stories and the community kitchen initiative demonstrates what people eat in their homes,” Slow Food Hunter Valley leader Amorelle Dempster said.
“Slow Food seeks to protect and preserve food culture and through the community kitchen. I hope to give people a feel for the heritage of a recipe, as well as the story and the people behind the food.”
Countries represented at the community kitchen will include India, Japan, Sudan, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka.
“I’m a migrant and for me it is wonderful to be involved with so many other cultures,” Mrs Dempster said.
“It is just wonderful to be celebrating multiculturalism with food.”
n The Maitland Riverlights Festival will be held at The Levee shared zone on Saturday, October 10, from 4pm until 9pm.
