Campton received the accolades and a shelf full of trophies when he won the final round of the $10,000 Heffernan Motorsport Winter Series at Kurri Kurri Speedway last Saturday, ahead of Taylor Poole (Central Coast) and Jake Allen (Queensland).
Campton’s remarkable record includes the 2015 Kurri Kurri Speedway Club 500cc Solo Championship, the 2015 Kurri Kurri Speedway Club Senior Championship, the Heffernan Motorsport 500cc Series winner and being crowned the 2015 Heffernan Motorsport Winter Series Grand Champion.
Speaking at the presentation party after the race meeting, Campton said he was proud of his achievements of the past six months.
“I wanted to finish off [the series] with a win today to set myself up for the important summer season ahead. The [NSW] state title has more significance than ever on making it to the UK,” he said.
Campton was referring to the new standards being considered by British Speedway for some overseas riders to receive a visa to compete in the UK in 2016. Campton was one of the victims of the strict visa regulations this year and missed out on returning to the Workington Comets to whom he was contracted in 2014.
Results in the Australian Speedway Solo Championships and State Speedway Solo Championships will now be taken into consideration.
The 2015 NSW Speedway Solo Championship is scheduled to be held indoors at the Arena, Tamworth and Campton is clearly focused on that event.
Kurri Kurri youngster Jack Miles won the 2015 Kurri Kurri Speedway Junior 125cc Solo Championship and Lake Macquarie’s Mitchell Cluff won the 2015 Kurri Kurri Speedway 250cc Solo Championship.
The Kurri Kurri Speedway Club will launch its nighttime summer season of racing at the next meeting on Saturday, November 7.
Two official NSW state titles will highlight the program – the 2015 NSW Under 21 Speedway Solo Championship and the 2015 NSW 250cc Solo Championship.
