Gifted with a voice coveted by many, Daniel Ott is a classically trained artist with a love for rugby league.
And this weekend the teenage baritone will join three of Maitland’s most talented classical performers in a soiree at the Maitland Regional Art Gallery.
Hosted by the Maitland Arts Council, the event will also feature the talents of soprano Jackie Ward, tenor Robb Dennis and accompanist Megan O’Neill.
“Singing at the gallery is a bit nerve-wracking because you get to really see the audience, unlike on stage,” Daniel, 17, of Ashtonfield, said.
“But it’s also lots of fun and special too because you get to share a moment with these people.”
Last year, the emerging artist secured one of four prestigious scholarships with Opera Australia and, more recently, made the finals of the Joan Sutherland Vocal Scholarship as part of the Sydney Eisteddfod.
On the flipside of his singing, Daniel is also a member of the Newcastle Knights 17s development squad and next week he will begin preparing for his HSC in 2016.
“I’m actually really looking forward to year 12 because this is the year that counts, so I’m getting ready to smash it,” Daniel said.
“But after school I want to pursue singing because that’s where my heart is.”
The Maitland Arts Council will present Showstoppers at the Maitland Regional Art Gallery on Saturday, October 10, at 6.30pm. For tickets phone Bob Geoghegan on 0407 234 172.
