A man accused of murdering his 12-year-old stepdaughter at Aberglasslyn chose not appear while his matter was briefly mentioned in Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday.

The 31-year-old, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, is in custody and declined to appear via audio visual link.
Magistrate Robert Stone adjourned the matter until December for a brief of evidence to be compiled.
The man is accused of assaulting his stepdaughter at the family home in Aberglasslyn sometime on the night of September 22.
The girl's mother discovered her daughter dead in her bed the following morning and called police.
The accused was arrested several kilometres away in Racecourse Road, Rutherford and taken to Maitland police station where he was charged with murder.
Police have said the incident is believed to be domestic-related.
